    Reports to: Fine and Applied Arts Division Head
    Terms and Conditions: 10-months, 183-day teacher calendar.
    FLSA Status: Exempt
    Salary: Per Faculty Senate collective bargaining agreement, initial placement $30,422-$37,327 depending on experience.

    Oak Park and River Forest High School , or OPRF , is a comprehensive public high school located in Oak Park, Ill., a suburb eight miles due west of downtown Chicago. We are a one-school district, with the majority of our students coming from two sender districts, River Forest Public Schools District 90 and Oak Park Elementary School District 97. We offer more than 200 courses, a variety of programs for students with special needs, 75 clubs and activities, and 29 competitive sports. We prepare our students well for post-secondary success, with an average ACT composite score of 24 and a 94% graduation rate.

    Position Summary:
    Under the general supervision of the Division Head of Fine and Applied Arts, to develop students' business academics (e.g. reading, math, writing, etc.) and business skills (e.g. word processing, typing, bookkeeping, record keeping, office procedures, business communications, etc.), as well as an understanding of our American business system and its place in the nation's and world's economy; to provide knowledge needed for intelligent consumption of business services; to develop practical business skills for personal use or for use in business occupations; and to encourage students to develop work and personal habits essential for success in business. This position will also need to develop students' understanding of Family and Consumer Sciences including but not limited to Culinary Arts and Food and Fitness.

    Essential Functions:
    1. Develops and administers business education curriculum and Family and Consumer Science curriculum consistent with school district goals and objectives.
    2. Promotes a classroom environment that is safe and conducive to individualized and small group instruction, and student learning.
    3. Develops lesson plans and instructional materials and translates lesson plans into learning experiences so as to best utilize the available time for instruction
    4. Teaches knowledge and skills in the following subjects to secondary students: typing, note-taking, bookkeeping, record-keeping, office procedures, business communications, data processing or basic business principles, culinary arts, and/or foods and fitness.
    5. Provides instruction on the use and development of skills in the use of office equipment, technology (including the use of computer network systems and applications, and business techniques such as those used in merchandising.
    6. Provides instruction on the usage of common kitchen items including stoves, blenders, mixing tools, etc.
    7. Prepares appropriate instructional aids and display materials to enhance learning.
    8. Instructs students in use, care, and safe operation of business and kitchen equipment.
    9. Conducts ongoing assessment of student learning, and modifies instructional methods to fit individual student's needs, including students with special needs.
    10. Continues to acquire professional knowledge and learn of current developments in the educational field by attending seminars, workshops or professional meetings, or by conducting research, and by maintaining professional relationships with members of the business community.
    11. Organizes and maintains a system for accurate and complete record-keeping, grading, and reporting for all student activities, achievement and attendance as required by district procedures and applicable laws.
    12. Encourages parental involvement in students' education and ensures effective communication with students and parents.
    13. Ensures that student conduct conforms with the school's standards and school district policies, and establishes and maintains standards of student behavior needed to achieve a functional learning atmosphere in the classroom.
    14. Coordinates with other professional staff members, especially within grade level, and participates in faculty meetings and committees.
    15. Selects and requisitions appropriate books, instructional aids and other supplies and equipment and maintains inventory records.
    16. Other duties as assigned.

    Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
    1. Knowledge of current teaching methods and educational pedagogy, as well as differentiated instruction based upon student learning styles.
    2. Knowledge of business education and Family and Consumer Science curriculum and concepts.
    3. Knowledge of data information systems, data analysis and the formulation of action plans.
    4. Knowledge of applicable federal and state laws regarding education and students.
    5. Ability to use computer network system and software applications as needed.
    6. Ability to organize and coordinate work.
    7. Ability to communicate effectively with students and parents.
    8. Ability to engage in self-evaluation with regard to performance and professional growth.
    9. Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with others contacted in the course of work.

    Qualifications:
    1. Valid Illinois Professional Educators License with Business Education and FACS endorsements.
    2. Masters degree preferred.
    3. Prior high school teaching experience preferred.
