Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer, Rush University
Medical Center, the CEO of Rush Oak Park Hospital ensures that
patient care is delivered in an accountable, effective organization
through an emphasis on quality, efficiency, and best practices. The
CEO prepares and executes an operational and financial strategic
plan for a $500M organization and carries out the ROPH mission,
vision, and values and ensures ongoing viability of the hospital.
The CEO leads improvement efforts develops new systems of
accountability across all clinical operations and helps mold
leaders into an effective team focused on delivering outstanding
clinical services to ROPH patients.
In addition to the responsibilities as CEO, ideally this leader
will also assume responsibilities as the Chief Medical Officer for
ROPH. This position will play an integral role in the
organization's plans for continued growth and clinical excellence,
furthering the development of high-reliability patient care using
evidence-based approaches, and where available, to identify and
implement best practices. The role is also responsible for assuring
a collaborative partnership with the academic, medical practice,
and corporate programs at ROPH, RUMC and the Rush System for Health
in ways that demonstrate support for the corporation's mission and
vision. The CEO partners closely with the Dean of Rush Medical
College, CEOs and CMOs at other Rush University System for Health
hospitals, and Medical Director of Rush Health.
The position models the Rush values, acts in accordance with
Rush policies and procedures, and holds others accountable for
meeting standards which may be informed by industry best practices,
or may be regulatory in nature.
The executive is expected to implement improvement efforts,
develop new systems of accountability across operations, and guide
an effective team of operational leaders under his/her direction to
focus on delivering outstanding operational services to the Rush
University System for Health community. Through emphasis on
quality, efficiency, and best practices, the position ensures that
operational services are delivered within a "best-in-class" culture
by an accountable, effective integrated organization. With the aim
to extend to the overall Rush University System for Health reach;
this position is also responsible for surfacing and activating
suitable external business opportunities.
Provides overall leadership and direction for the hospital.
Responsible to the Board for the organization, operations and
management of ROPH in accordance with policies established by the
Board and subject to direction of the Board.
Ensures compliance with all local, state, and federal

decision-making that will enable ROPH to meet its financial and

performance improvement teams, national patient safety goals,
sentinel event reporting, and quality data reporting for all
external agencies and the integration of such initiatives with
Medical Staff committees and clinical departments.
Responsible for Medical Staff peer review activities including
credentialing and privileging, Medical Staff Peer Review Committee
review of incident reports, issues of concern regarding Medical
Staff member behavior and performance, and management of Medical
Staff disciplinary actions including reporting responsibility to
the Medical Board of Illinois and the National Practitioner Data
Bank. Oversees implementation of Medical Staff Bylaws, Rules and
Regulations, and Medical Staff Administrative Policies.
Oversees licensure and accreditation functions including, Center
for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS), Illinois Department of
Public Health (IDPH), The Joint Commission (TJC), and multiple
other agencies responsible for accreditation and licensing of
individual programs, laboratories, and services.
Reports regularly to Quality Committee of the ROPH Board, and
Medical Staff Executive Committee on issues related to quality and
patient safety issues, compliance, accreditation and regulation,
and performance improvement initiatives.
Provides leadership for the Hospital's staff regarding the
development and interpretation of medical policy, evidence-based
practice, and clinical investigation, assuring the integration of
findings into the policies and procedures governing the provision
of services and care at ROPH.
Responsible for the direction and management of the Rush Oak
Park Physicians Group and the employed ER physicians
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Master's degree in Health Administration, Public Health or
medical degree required.
10-15 years of experience in progressive hospital operations
leadership positions including academic medical center
Considerable knowledge of and experience with academic physician
group practices would be a plus.
Track record of outstanding medical staff relationships with a
mixture of employed and private practice physicians.
Experience in a major urban competitive environment.
