Job Description:
External DescriptionPosition Summary: The Certified Occupational
Therapy Assistant (COTA) provides patients with therapeutic and
self-care activities designed to improve the patients abilities in
daily life skills. The OTA provides these rehabilitative services
to patients in a home health care environment and works under the
direction of an Occupational Therapist or Director of
Nursing.Essential Duties:Communicates clients' status, changes in
condition, changes in care plan and needs to family members, staff
and other professionalsMaintains regular, predictable, consistent
attendance and is flexible to meet the needs of the
departmentPerform all occupational therapy procedures planned and
delegated as prescribed by the physician in the clients place of
residence as instructed and supervised by the qualified
occupational therapistAssist clients to and from treatment or
training areas and instruct client in pushing wheelchair,
supporting or lifting and positioning in and out of bedMay use
equipment and devices to assist clients'Assist client with slings,
splints and self-help devices to obtain physical
independenceObserve client for signs of distress and adjust
activities accordinglyMaintain work areas, i.e., cleaning,
transporting, storing and inspecting materials and
suppliesMaintains accurate clinical records, keeping track of goals
and progress of clients'Abides by all regulations, policies,
procedures and standardsTeaches clients' how to properly use
exercise techniquesPerform other duties as assignedPerformance
Responsibilities:Maintains positive internal and external customer
service relationshipsMaintains open lines of communicationPlans and
organizes work effectively and ensures its completionMeets all
productivity requirementsDemonstrates team behavior and promotes a
team-oriented environmentActively participates in Continuous
Quality Improvement, educational programs, and staff
meetingsRepresents the organization professionally at all
timesPosition Requirements Competencies:Must be willing to travel
within local geographic areaMust possess current CPR and First Aid
CertificationCertified as an occupational therapy assistant by
AOTA, American Occupational Therapy Association1 year of
occupational therapy assistant experienceMust meet minimum health
and safety requirements for healthcare workersPossess knowledge of
principles and practice of occupational therapyMust demonstrate
ability to exercise independent judgment with limited
supervisionMust be comfortable working in a home health care
setting within a client's residenceAddus provides equal employment
