Job DescriptionJOB SUMMARYPosition is responsible for admitting
patients to the hospital utilizing a complete comprehensive
assessment, initiating an appropriate plan of care to meet the
patients nursing needs and ensuring the patient environment is
safe. JOB QUALIFICATIONS1. Registered Nurse with current Illinois
license, BSN preferred2. CPR certification3. Demonstrated
organization and time management skills and the ability to
prioritize multiple tasks4. Excellent interpersonal skills,
customer service delivery skills5. Excellent experience leading and
facilitating a wide variety of diverse patient groups required6.
Ability to assess needs, identify problems, explore alternatives
and implement solutions.7. Demonstrated ability to work
independently and make decisions in accordance with hospital policy
and governmental regulations.8. Knowledge of basic computer
operations and use of word processing software9. Ability to use
audio/visual equipment, telephone and other clinical equipment for
patient teaching. SUPERVISIONExercised: None. Received: Reports to
the Manager, Nursing Administration JOB RELATIONSHIPS
(INTERNAL/EXTERNAL)Functions as a clinical liaison for patient care
teams and service. Through documentation and verbal communication,
essential information is shared with other healthcare team members.
Interacts daily with patients, families, physicians, and unit and
hospital personnel. Adjusts patient interaction and/or treatment to
match each patient's age-specific developmental, educational, or
other related needs. Whenever possible, the family or those
significant to the family are considered as part of the assessment,
planning, intervention and evaluation efforts. JOB DUTIES (*
denotes "essential function")1. Demonstrates the WSMC Customer
Service Values, which are key in providing quality service to
patients and customers. *2. Completes Nursing Admission Assessment
with patient and family at time of admission.*3. Makes accurate
multi-system assessments and clearly documents in patient records
on a continuous basis.*4. Assesses and implements appropriate
nursing care based upon comprehensive nursing assessment.*5.
Expedites admissions transfers from Emergency Department and direct
admissions to maintain effective patient flow. *6. Performs nursing
duties as delegated through physician orders or as outlined in
patient plan of care to provide quality care to patients.*7.
Evaluates, initiates, and maintains standards of care in area of
expertise and performs duties in accordance with the policies and
procedures of West Suburban and the Nursing Department.*8.
Implements the medical plan of care appropriately as delegated
through physician orders and with the parameters of this job
description. *9. Administers medications and treatments safely,
accurately, and in accordance with established policies and
procedures. *10. Directs, coordinates, and participates in the
activities required for delivery of quality patient care as a part
of the healthcare team.*11. Directs and coordinates nursing care,
establishes priorities and delegates nursing activities according
to patient needs and staff's capabilities and qualifications. *12.
Participates as a member of the patient care team, facilitates
communication and initiates interdisciplinary activities.*13.
Clearly communicates in a timely manner data obtained during
nursing assessments, reports and interdisciplinary rounds and
serves as an advocate for patients and families when communicating
with other health team members. *14. Assist team members in
providing care to patients or administers direct care when
professional nursing skills and judgment are required.*15.
Participates in education, research, and performance improvement
activities to enhance and maintain personal developmental
qualifications and standards of performance.16. Collaborates with
Director, Nurse Manager, Nursing Educator and staff to identify and
provide opportunities for staff members to develop the knowledge,
skills, and abilities needed to contribute to the success of the
department.17. Participates in quality improvement activities to
advance the practice of nursing at Weiss.18. Serves as the first
line contact for greeting patients and resolving patient
concerns.*19. Functions as a resource for new employees and float
staff.*20. Maintains a positive influence while role-modeling
professional behaviors such as rounding, service recovery, key
words and providing a positive approach to problem-solving for the
unit.21. Performs other position appropriate duties as required in
a competent, professional and courteous manner.WORKING
CONDITIONSPhysical Environment/Hazards: Must possess sufficient
dexterity to use equipment, perform technical tasks and render
patient care on a daily basis. Walks or stands most of shift. Must
have sufficient knowledge of basic body mechanics and physical
strength to safely move patients and/or equipment so as not to
injure self or others. Constant interruptions and changing
priorities may produce stress. Constant exposure to diagnosed and
undiagnosed communicable diseases. Possibility for needle sticks.
OSHA Category I: Duties performed routinely require exposure to
blood, body fluid and tissue. TB Exposure: There is an occupational
risk for exposure to TB and the incumbent is required to take
Particulate Respirator Fit testing. STATEMENT OF OTHER DUTIESThis
