Purpose of the job:

Ensure accurate and timely financial reporting, budgeting, and forecasting, while working with breeding, production, operations, and sales teams in defining, measuring, and improving the understanding of leading and lagging indicators of company success.

Responsibilities:

• Lead month-end closing and reporting activities to provide timely and accurate financial information to management to help drive business strategy and tactics.
• Lead business unit and offshore budgeting and forecasting activities to present financial representation of business unit plans in terms of profitability and investments.
• Ensure accuracy and timely understanding of key forward and backward-looking metrics within the business regarding inventory, forecasting, sales, production, and service levels. Each of these metrics is a key result for driving the success of PanAmerican Seed. Solid early indicators help us drive actions to leverage outperformance and mitigate underperformance.
• Work with global production and research sites to ensure robust financials and understanding behind the numbers. Much of the work for PanAmerican Seed is done outside of West Chicago. Each location has its unique set of people, activities, resources, and financials. Consistent critical analysis and collaborative support and ensure quality of reporting and decision making.
• Help drive initiatives to improve effectiveness and efficiency of formal and ad hoc reporting through process and systems redesign. We expect operational excellence in everything we do. This extends to the finance function, both in terms of doing the right things AND doing things right. Think of areas such as budgeting, fast close, dashboards and building / unlocking our Data Warehouse.
• This role will take the report of the Senior Accountant as well as manage and develop support staff
• This role will work closely with production and sales teams modeling supply and growth strategies
• Participate in PanAmerican Seed Executive Team
• Participate in Finance Leadership Team, and International Finance Managers meetings. Requirements
  • Minimum 5 years' experience within international business as an Assistant Controller or equivalent
  • Bachelor's Degree in Finance/Accounting
  • Demonstrated proficiency in MS Office. Experience with ERP system (SAP ECC 6. or S/4 preferred).
  • Spanish language very nice to have because of intensive communication and relationships with primarily Latin American farms.
  • Proven collaborator as well as ability to shape narrative to audience.
  • Ability to influence without authority, proactive and willing to come with advice without being asked.
  • Financial Acumen - Ability to use financial analysis to generate, evaluate, and act on strategic options and opportunities.
  • Business Insight - Ability to use knowledge of business drivers and how strategies and tactics play out in the market to guide actions.
  • Communicates Effectively - Provides timely and helpful information to others across the organization. Physical Requirements
    • Ability to sit 80 - 100% of the day
    • Ability to use hands/fingers 100% of the day
    • Travel is required to production farms/R & D locations both in the US and abroad as required (Less than 5% per year)
      Ball Horticultural Company is a leading breeder and distributor of flowers and vegetables around the globe. Located in the suburbs of West Chicago (near Naperville and Geneva), our 60-acre property boasts 10 acres of display gardens. The gardens are primarily used as a sales and marketing tool but also provide a great relaxation opportunity for staff at the home office. Perennials, annuals, vegetables, roses, and shrubs are blooming from May through September.
