Job Description:
The Department of Public Health Sciences (PHS) in the Biological
Sciences Division at the University of Chicago is accepting
applications for full-time appointees at the rank of assistant
instructional professor. Appointees will play a key instructional
role in the University’s accredited Master of Public Health (MPH)
program. The assistant instructional professors will teach five or
six quarter courses per year, each ten weeks. Courses will include
core courses in the MPH curriculum (e.g., Foundations of Public
Health, Public Health in Practice, Epidemiology & Population
Health) and new courses that draw on the specific areas of the
appointees’ research and training. While the discipline within
public health that is of greatest interest is epidemiology, all
areas of public health will be fully considered. In addition, the
appointees will work with the leadership of the program to organize
and support MPH advising, practicum experience placements, and
capstone project advising. This is a 12-month appointment and is
renewable, with an initial term of three years. This is a career
track with the possibility of future promotions to associate and
full instructional professor. The terms and conditions of
employment for this position are covered by a collective bargaining
agreement between the Service Employees International Union (SEIU)
and the University. These positions are benefits-eligible. The

qualified applicants must: 1) have a PhD, DrPH, or equivalent
degree in epidemiology, public health, or a related field and 2)
have served as a primary instructor for an undergraduate or
graduate course. Preferred qualifications include a record of
published research in epidemiology or public health, knowledge of
geographic information systems, and experience with community
organizations. These positions would begin in the summer of 2026.
